Disney World is refurbishing and renovating some of our favorite attractions this year. Here’s a list of what might not be available on your next trip.

Right after New Year’s, the Magic Kingdom closed Big Thunder Mountain Railroad for a much needed renovation. Guests packed “the wildest ride in the wilderness” to get in one last ride this past weekend as it shut down on Monday, January 6th. It will likely be closed for the entire year as there appears to be some major structural overhauls planned for this OG staple in Frontierland. Cranes were already in place when we rode it this past weekend.

Astro Orbiter in Tomorrowland will also be shutting down in 2025 and will no re-open until the summer.

Over in the Mexican Pavilion at Epcot, the Gran Fiesta Tour also shut down on January 6th for some touch ups. The slow moving boat ride inspired by Donald Duck is one of the first World Showcase attractions to feature Disney characters based on an existing property. The Three Caballeros will go on hiatus until March 15th for their refurbishment project.

In Animal Kingdom, Kali River Rapids was the 3rd Disney World attraction to shut down on January 6th. This thrilling water ride has always been popular, especially in the hot summer months and we hope it will be back for summer 2025.

As for resorts, Disney’s Yacht and Beach Club’s super popular pool, Stormalong Bay, will close in January and not re-open until summer 2025. The super fun pirate ship slide, lazy river and pool are will be refurbished but the resorts other pools will still be open to guests during this time.

Test Track in Epcot is still closed as it is going through a major overhaul. General Motors will return as the sponsor for this attraction which will feature a new storyline about the innovation of cars. We hope it will return bigger and better in summer 2025!
